They can also cause breathing issues with people who have asthma or serious allergies.
Identifying a Cockroach Infestation
Many people make see a cockroach and think that one just happened to wander into the home and that there is not a serious problem. While the larger American cockroaches may occasionally wander in, if you see smaller roaches like the German cockroach or the Oriental cockroach, you are much more likely to have a serious cockroach problem. Here are some other signs of a cockroach infestation.
- Seeing roaches in your home. Generally, if you see just one roach, you can expect to have more. Also, roaches reproduce rapidly and just one or two can quickly turn into thousands.
- Roach droppings on your counters, especially along the edges near the wall. Roach droppings are black and look like pepper flakes.
- Egg casings. Roaches lay their eggs in rectangular casings that are similar in color to the cockroaches themselves. They can hold up to 40 eggs in each casing. Seeing the casings around your home is a sure sign that you have a roach problem.
- Musty odor. A serious infestation will cause a distinctive odor that is very noticeable. Once you know the smell, you will always be able to recognize it.

Considering how indestructible cockroaches can be, the best way to get rid of cockroaches is to hire a professional that will treat the interior of your home with commercial grade insecticides. A professional exterminator will use a combination of treatments that will eliminate the roaches. Additionally, they can identify where nests are to make sure they remove them completely. Preventing Cockroach Infestations
Cockroaches come into your home in search of food and water. If you repair any leaking pipes, you can eliminate one of the things that roaches need the most to survive. Doing the dishes right after you eat and removing the trash each night can also reduce the chances of roaches deciding to stay and make your place home. Be sure to check packages that you bring into your home since they often have roaches in them.
